    The paper “Hephaestus A Tool for Managing SPL Variabilities” by Rodrigo Almeida and Leopoldo Teixeira, was accepted for publication in the Session Tools SBCARS 2009.

    The work was supervised by Professor Paulo Borba, and is related to the activities of “Support the model checking of features in Software Product Lines” and “Development of techniques and tools to cover the areas of requirements and traceability” of the project Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution of INES.

    The paper presents a suite of tools and libraries Hephaestus, which derives product specific artifacts from models of a line of software products. The examples in the article demonstrate how the tool can be used to generate use case documents and files to build a specific product, using a case study known: the Mobile Media line of products.

    The paper “A Design Rule Language for Aspect-Oriented Programming” was accepted for publication in the XIII Brazilian Symposium on Programming Languages - (SBLP 2009). The article is part of the project “Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution” (Goal: Develop techniques, tools and domain-specific languages for modularization of the implementation of features in software product lines) and will be presented by the member Alberto Costa Neto of the project from 19 to 21 August 2009 in Gramado / RS.

    Aspect-Oriented Programming is known as a technique to modularize crosscutting concerns. However, buildings that are designed to support crosscutting modularity can break the modularity of the class. This can be mitigated through Design Rules between classes and aspects. We present a language that supports many of the Design Rules found in aspect-oriented systems, making it easier to express and check them automatically. We discuss how our language improves the crosscutting modularity without breaking the modularity of the class. Furthermore, we give some details about the semantics of the language expressed in Alloy

    Members of the project “Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution “, Rodrigo Bonifacio and Leopoldo Teixeira, are going to a technical visit to UFCG on days 20th , 21st and May 22nd. The purpose of this visit is to discuss and analyze a set of techniques and tools for development of Software Product Lines, and working on a preparation of an associated article.

    This project is coordinated by CIn-UFPE, with the collaboration of institutions UFRN, UFCG, UFRPE, UFS and UPE. The project goal is to develop tools to support the construction and evolution of software product lines.

    An important competitive advantage for software companies is the ability to launch similar products, or variations of a product adapted to the peculiarities of specific clients, with agility and reduced costs without compromising quality. This has become possible through the development of Software Product Lines (SPL).

    The project “Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution” of INES is to develop tools to support the construction and evolution of software product lines. In this context, three areas related to product lines will be covered:

    • Managing variations and traceability requirements;
    • Extraction, refactoring and optimization;
    • Languages for modularization of features.

    The results of this study will help software companies to initiate and develop product families with agility and reduced costs without compromising quality. Furthermore, approaches and tools developed will enable the transfer of technology via courses and postgraduate courses to advanced graduate.

    This project is coordinated by CIn-UFPE, with the collaboration of institutions UFRN, UFCG, UFRPE, UFS, and UPE.
