The second one, entitled ”PSemRef: Personalized Query Reformulation based on User Preferences”, will be at the 12th International Conference on Information Integration and Web-based Applications & Services (iiWAS2010) in Paris, France, in November, 8-10.

Both conferences and associated workshops have a very interesting program and it will be an opportunity to see the state of the art from different domains as Information Integration, Ontologies, Semantic Web, Cloud Computing, among others. Tutorials and important invited speakers in the area will be major moments in the evenements. Besides, being at both conferences will be an excellent opportunity to meet people, make new contacts and even stablish new collaborations.

This paper approach distributed scrum challenges based on an experience of a collaborating work run by about 60 post-graduating students working in a partial distributed environment. The project was focused on the development of the first Brazilian freeware and open source tool for Scrum teams (http://www.firescrum.com), and was based on a Scrum of Scrums strategy. This paper presents challenges and lessons learned in this context. Since the launch of its beta version in July of 2009, FireScrum, the first Brazilian tool for Scrum teams [CAVALCANTI, 2009], count with more than 7.000 downloads and 34.000 visits.

INES researchers André Santos, Fernando Castor, Márcio Ribeiro, Paulo Borba, Sérgio Soares and Christina Chavez will attend SPLASH’2010 (ACM Conference on Systems, Programming, Languages, and Applications: Software for Humanity)

Márcio Ribeiro and Paulo Borba have a paper entitled “Emergent Feature Modularization“, which has been accepted for publication in the Onward! 2010 proceedings, co-allocated with SPLASH. This paper is a result of the project “Tool Support for Software Product Lines Development and Evolution”.

Fernando Castor had a poster accepted at SPLASH’2010. Publication’ details are:

FARIAS, Rafael ; SOARES-NETO, Francisco ; CASTOR, Fernando . Hamster - Making Grid Middleware Fault-Tolerant. In: ACM Conference on Systems, Programming, Languages, and Applications: Software for Humanity (SPLASH’2010), 2010, Reno. SPLASH’2010 Companion. New York : ACM Press, 2010.

Abstract: Organizations which use grid computing have to deal with events such as a machine turned off or a failed component. Some of these events can completely break a grid, wasting important resources. This paper presents Hamster, a monitoring and recovery mechanism for grid middleware. Its main goal is to maximize the use of available resources, recovering faulty middleware components and avoiding resource idleness or, worse, a complete grid stop. Hamster comprises a number of services that complement existing application-level checkpointing mechanisms. It has been integrated into the OurGrid middleware platform.

However, in such a scenario, teams allocation is not a trivial task, because it has to take into account properties of the software project, the teams and the context in which they are immersed. Thus, the framework proposed in this paper aims to provide recommendations on how to allocate teams to software components in distributed SPL projects by considering technical and non-technical aspects.

However, their cultural, temporal and geographical differences reduce the communication effectiveness, directly affecting the project’s progress and success. In order to mitigate such communication issues, based on non-technical features of global distributed development teams and dependences among software modules, this article describes an approach for recommending the allocation of development teams to implementation tasks of software modules.
